Vorig jaar deed Bovelander nog een ruimhartige schenking van 30 werken aan het Noord-Veluws Museum, waarvan een selectie te zien was in de Rabozaal.

Na haar jeugd doorgebracht te hebben in Indonesië waar ze van 1942 tot 1945 in kamp Banjoe Biroe 10 verbleef, woonde Gaby vanaf 1946 op Kasteel Staverden bij Elspeet, waar haar vader directeur was van een vakantieoord. Vanuit Staverden komt zij begin jaren vijftig van de vorige eeuw in contact met de schilders van de Noordwest Veluwe, zoals Ima van Eysinga, maar ook met Jos Lussenburg en Chris ten Bruggen Kate. In 1953 voltooide zij de kunstacademie in Arnhem, afdeling Monumentale Kunst en Glas-in-Lood. Bovelander voerde veel opdrachten uit voor wandschilderingen, sgraffiti voor scholen en fabrieken en wandkleden. In 1965 verhuisde zij naar Hoog Soeren. In 1966 nam zij het initiatief om in Apeldoorn een ‘kunstschool’ op te richten, het centrum voor kunsteducatie dat later uitgroeide tot ‘Gigant, Markant in cultuur’. Gaby Bovelander was een geliefd docent en begeleidde tot op hoge leeftijd groepen op haar atelier in Hoog Soeren. Bovenal was zij een gepassioneerd kunstenaar die zich altijd probeerde te vernieuwen, zowel in techniek als in onderwerp.

In Gaby’s eerste periode als schilder is het surrealisme mede richting gevend geweest. Het ging een eigen leven leiden en werd haar eigen stijl, één die zeer herkenbaar is, het ‘Magisch Realisme’. Desolate landschappen, die bevolkt werden door ‘fantastische’ figuren en vormen. Haar kleurgebruik is dan nog enigszins gedekt: zandkleuren en blauwen. Minutieus schilderen in olieverf en tekenen met potlood op verschillende ondergronden. De basiskennis van het tekenen is voor haar essentieel. Een compositie, een figuur staat of valt met de juiste opbouw.

Maar het natuurgetrouw weergeven is te verhalend. Nu komt er een periode van het deformeren. Zij borduurt voort op haar honderden diertekeningen: katten, honden, muizen, eenden, kikkers, slakken, en ook mensjes. Ze roepen soms op tot humor en vrolijkheid. Het is boeiend te onderzoeken tot hoever deze kunst kaan gaan en herkenning van de ‘essentie’ mogelijk blijft. De ‘Lyrisch Abstracte’ periode breekt aan. Abstracte, sobere werken met krachtige composities, waarin subtiel herkenbare vormen terugkeren.

Als het schilderen fysiek te zwaar wordt, kiest Gaby er voor om over te gaan op digitale kunst. Met diverse computerprogramma’s weet zij ook nu weer haar zo kenmerkende beeldtaal vorm te geven. In 2016 verschijnt haar boek: Banjoe Biroe 10, over het interneringskamp op Java waar Gaby van haar elfde tot haar veertiende jaar samen met haar moeder opgesloten zat. Jaren van ontbering die we later steeds in diverse vormen zien terugkeren in haar werk.

Van 8 januari t/m 20 maart 2022 zal in het Noord-Veluws Museum een overzichtstentoonstelling gewijd worden aan Gaby Bovelander

Kom op zaterdag 3 oktober van 10 tot 12 uur naar het museum om uw Jaap Hiddink te laten zien.

Is het kunstwerk museumwaardig? Is het goed onderhouden? Is het onderwerp van de voorstelling bijzonder? De conservator en twee deskundigen nemen uw schilderij graag onder de loep. Wanneer wij enthousiast zijn, hangt uw werk straks misschien wel in het museum!

Jaap Hiddink (Nunspeet 1910 – 2000) heeft zijn lange leven in kunstenaarsdorp Nunspeet gewerkt. In het Noord-Veluws Museum is van 5 december 2020 t/m 28 maart 2021 een overzichtstentoonstelling van Jaap Hiddink te zien.

In het kader van de actuele tentoonstelling ‘Vermoorde kunst’, werk van vermoorde Joodse kunstenaars, die tot en met 29 november a.s. in het Noord-Veluws Museum Nunspeet te zien is, vindt er op donderdag 1 oktober a.s. een bijzonder museumconcert plaats. De Nederlandse cellist Wouter Mijnders zal op deze avond een solo optreden verzorgen om 20.30 uur en zal voor wat betreft de keuze van het repertoire aansluiten bij het thema van de tentoonstelling ‘Vermoorde kunst’.

Tijdens het soloconcert van Mijnders zijn composities te horen van Bloch, Norgard, Mussaf, Lorca, Gordon en Khan. Ook zal Wouter Mijnders het programma zelf toelichten.

Het concert zou oorspronkelijk  in de maand april van dit jaar plaatsvinden, maar werd door de coronacrisis uitgesteld.

De maximale capaciteit voor het concert is 30 bezoekers en men wordt verzocht vooraf telefonisch te reserveren. Het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet is ‘coronaproof’.

Het concerten duurt ca. 45 minuten en heeft geen pauze. Er is geen horeca aanwezig en het publiek wordt verzocht 15 minuten voor aanvang aanwezig te zijn.

Duitse ambassadeur onder de indruk van expositie in Noord-Veluws museum: ‘Erinnern und aufpassen’

Een uitgestelde opening, zo noemde directeur Erik Stotijn van het Noord-Veluws Museum de komst van de Duitse ambassadeur Dirk Brengelmann vanochtend. Stotijn had de cultureel attaché van Duitsland in maart al gevraagd om de tentoonstelling ‘Vermoorde kunst’ in zijn museum in Nunspeet te openen, maar toen gooide corona roet in het eten.

Toen de museumdirecteur onlangs nog eens informeerde naar de komst van de cultureel attaché naar het museum, kreeg hij een verrassende mededeling. Ja, hij kwam en bracht ook de Duitse ambassadeur mee. Brengelmann en cultureel attaché Thomas Walter kregen van de directeur en conservator Margot Jongedijk een persoonlijke rondleiding langs de schilderijen en andere werken van in de oorlog vermoorde kunstenaars.

Stotijn was in zijn nopjes met de komst van de ambassadeur en zijn collega. ,,We hebben natuurlijk drie maanden op slot gezeten.” Brengelmann en Walter namen ruim de tijd om de tentoonstelling te bekijken. Volgens de ambassadeur betekende die vooral ‘erinnern und aufpassen’, oftewel: onthouden en oppassen. ,,Zeer onder de indruk van het werk’’, was Brengelmann na afloop van zijn bezoek. ,,Vooral als je de verhalen erachter hoort.”

En ja, de tentoonstelling heeft door die geschiedenis en die verhalen ook wel iets dramatisch in zich, erkende de ambassadeur. ,,De achtergrond is dramatisch’’, erkende Brengelmann. ,,Maar de werken hebben wel veel kwaliteit in zich.” De uitnodiging om langs te komen in Nunspeet nam de ambassadeur dan ook met beide handen aan na de coronavertraging. ,,Zeker in het kader van 75 jaar bevrijding.’’

Museumdirecteur Stotijn was vooral blij met de komst van de ambassadeur, die mogelijk ook weer de aandacht trekt van Duitse toeristen in Nunspeet en omgeving. Want de drie maanden gedwongen sluiting in coronatijd hebben pijn gedaan in de bedrijfsvoering van het Noord-Veluws museum. ,,We hebben natuurlijk wel gebruik gemaakt van alle potjes en regelingen’’, zegt Stotijn. En inmiddels lijkt het museumbezoek weer wat aan te trekken: de cijfers over juli laten een behoudende stijging zien. ,,Ten opzichte van vorig jaar hebben we in juli maar 25 procent minder bezoekers gehad. En dat terwijl we toen een populaire tentoonstelling in huis hadden van Arthur Briët, en we nu nog maar beperkt open zijn. Dan zijn die cijfers relatief gunstig.”

Sjoel in Elburg

De tentoonstelling ‘Vermoorde kunst’ is door de coronasluiting verlengd met twee maanden, tot eind november. De Duitse ambassadeur vertrok na zijn bezoek aan het museum rond het middaguur naar het museum Sjoel in Elburg. Dat is niet geheel toevallig, omdat het Noord-Veluws museum met de Elburger collega’s intensief heeft samengewerkt voor de tentoonstelling ‘Vermoorde kunst’.
