Piet Bruins groeit op in Heemskerk. Hij krijgt lessen van de aquarellist Cor Heeck en volgt in Amsterdam een opleiding tot illustrator. Begin jaren’ 60 verhuist Bruins naar Nunspeet. Als docent tekenen en schilderen werkt hij op het Centrum voor kunstzinnige vorming te Harderwijk en geeft hij tekenlessen aan de Scholengemeenschap ’t Slingerbos te Harderwijk.

Verder is hij initiatiefnemer van de Harderwijkse kunstenaarsgroep Tragant en heeft hij ook les gegeven aan de Vrije Academie in Nunspeet. Hij bracht zijn passie voor uiteenlopende schilderstijlen op vele cursisten over. Die passie zorgde er ook voor dat Piet Bruins zijn hele leven bleef leren, zichzelf bleef prikkelen met nieuwe technieken en nieuwe materialen aan de slag te gaan.

Piet Bruins heeft zich toegelegd op het aquarel en later op het werken in gouache. In zijn latere leven maakte hij verrassende werken met Bijbelse figuren en landschappen die hij opbouwde met lijnen en felgekleurde kleurvlakken.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
