Welke keuzes maken zij, welke uitdagingen komen op hun pad? Deze week vertelt Margot Jongedijk, conservator van het Noord-Veluws Museum, over Gaby Bovelander. “De hele tentoonstelling is een verhaal over Bovelander zelf. Een gepassioneerd kunstenaar, die zelfs overging op digitale kunst toen schilderen fysiek te zwaar werd.”

Twee maanden geleden mocht het Noord-Veluws Museum een fraai schilderij van Jaap Hiddink als schenking in ontvangst nemen. In twee weken tijd was het rond, de zeer gewaardeerde schenking van eigenaar Marco de Gast uit Reuver (L) aan het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet. Een in alle opzichten imposant schilderij van Jaap Hiddink ‘Bosarbeiders met paarden en een Mallejan’. En tot en met 28 november nog te zien in de tentoonstelling ‘Jaap Hiddink, thuis in Nunspeet’.
Nu komt het schilderij van ‘Ben Viegers – Dorpskerk te Nunspeet met korenschoven’ terug naar Nunspeet, terug naar het Noord-Veluws Museum. Dit prachtige schilderij hing al als bruikleen in de openingstentoonstelling van het museum over Ben Viegers eind 2014, begin 2015 en is eigenlijk altijd op het netvlies blijven staan. Daarnaast was de afbeelding van het schilderij ook vastgelegd in de uitgave ‘Door de ogen van Ben Viegers’, zodat wij er blijvend aan herinnerd zouden worden. En nu komt het werk dan naar Nunspeet, naar het Noord-Veluws Museum en kunnen we spreken over een soort van ‘thuiskomen’ van genoemd schilderij.
Door een financiële donatie van 3.000 Euro van de commissie ‘HeleBoeldag’ van de Hervormde Gemeente Nunspeet is het museum in de gelegenheid gesteld om het werk aan te schaffen, een zeer genereus gebaar, waarbij de schenking vanuit een kerkelijke organisatie aan een cultureel-maatschappelijk doel als het museum, best bijzonder kan worden genoemd.

Op hun Grandtour door Gelderland in de negentiende eeuw moeten de Ridders van Gelre vandaag de Veluwe oversteken. Een barre tocht over woeste gronden, alhoewel: waar zijn die woeste gronden dan gebleven?
In de buurtschap Drie gaan ze op zoek naar de Bakenbomen. Hoe zwaar het leven op de arme zandgronden was ziet Ridder René om het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet. De tocht eindigt in Harderwijk waar de Ridders op zoek gaan naar de overblijfselen van het Koloniale verleden.

In twee weken tijd was het rond, de zeer gewaardeerde schenking van eigenaar Marco de Gast uit Reuver (L) aan het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet. Een in alle opzichten imposant schilderij van Jaap Hiddink ‘Bosarbeiders met paarden en een Mallejan’.
Wat een geweldige timing, deze schenking, tijdens de lopende tentoonstelling ‘Jaap Hiddink, thuis in Nunspeet’, zodat het schilderij ook nog aan het publiek getoond kan worden. En wat te denken van het ‘toeval’ dat de afbeelding op de cover van het boek ‘Veluws Vitalistisch Impressionist’ dit specifieke schilderij van Jaap Hiddink toont. Alle stukjes van deze puzzel vallen prachtig op hun plek.
Het verhaal van Marco de Gast over zijn schenking:
Toen ik eind jaren 90 “De Mallejan” van Jaap Hiddink kocht, vertelde Hiddink mij dat hij dit schilderij maakte tijdens zijn periode als wethouder van Ermelo (ik weet dat Nunspeet vanaf 1972 als zelfstandige gemeente verder ging). Aangezien hij tussen 1966-1973 wethouder was, neem ik aan dat het schilderij tussen 1970-1975 geschilderd is. Deze Mallejan stond in zijn atelier. Ik ga er vanuit dat hij het niet eerder aan iemand verkocht had en dat ik de eerste eigenaar was.
Jaap Hidding vertelde mij dat hij in zijn laatste jaren van zijn leven nog geld voor zijn dochter apart wilde houden. Ik kocht naast De Mallejan ook het schilderij dat hij in Delft maakte van de studentensociëteit aan de gracht. Dat schilderij hangt bij mijn ex-vrouw Marina Rovers in Beesel. Aangezien ik met vrouw en twee kinderen op de Veluwe was, kon ik de schilderijen niet meteen meenemen. Na vrouw en kinderen in Reuver teruggebracht te hebben, ging ik een paar dagen later terug naar Nunspeet. Jaap Hiddink stond klaar met een blik vernis en een grote blokkwast en deed zijn werk, zich niet realiserend dat De Mallejan nog in mijn auto vervoerd moest worden. Weliswaar een ruime auto, dat wel, maar het was passen, meten en oppassen.
Terug in Reuver bracht ik het doek naar Ward Windhausen in Roermond, die een passende lijst vervaardigde. Het verhaal dat Jaap Hiddink over De Mallejan vertelde, was dat de tractoren de jonge aanplant op de Veluwe kapot reden. De Mallejan richtte duidelijk minder schade aan het bos. Het schilderen was één van de vele dingen die Jaap Hiddink uit liefde voor de Veluwe deed.
