Twee maanden geleden mocht het Noord-Veluws Museum een fraai schilderij van Jaap Hiddink als schenking in ontvangst nemen. In twee weken tijd was het rond, de zeer gewaardeerde schenking van eigenaar Marco de Gast uit Reuver (L) aan het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet. Een in alle opzichten imposant schilderij van Jaap Hiddink ‘Bosarbeiders met paarden en een Mallejan’. En tot en met 28 november nog te zien in de tentoonstelling ‘Jaap Hiddink, thuis in Nunspeet’.

Nu komt het schilderij van ‘Ben Viegers – Dorpskerk te Nunspeet met korenschoven’ terug naar Nunspeet, terug naar het Noord-Veluws Museum. Dit prachtige schilderij hing al als bruikleen in de openingstentoonstelling van het museum over Ben Viegers eind 2014, begin 2015 en is eigenlijk altijd op het netvlies blijven staan. Daarnaast was de afbeelding van het schilderij ook vastgelegd in de uitgave ‘Door de ogen van Ben Viegers’, zodat wij er blijvend aan herinnerd zouden worden. En nu komt het werk dan naar Nunspeet, naar het Noord-Veluws Museum en kunnen we spreken over een soort van ‘thuiskomen’ van genoemd schilderij.

Door een financiële donatie van 3.000 Euro van de commissie ‘HeleBoeldag’ van de Hervormde Gemeente Nunspeet is het museum in de gelegenheid gesteld om het werk aan te schaffen, een zeer genereus gebaar, waarbij de schenking vanuit een kerkelijke organisatie aan een cultureel-maatschappelijk doel als het museum, best bijzonder kan worden genoemd.

Het Noord-Veluws Museum heeft een uitgebreide collectie met werken van verschillende kunstenaars. Op de bovenverdieping is de tentoonstelling ingericht met een selectie van de werken. Teylers Museum Haarlem heeft op 6 december 2017 239 tekeningen van de Engelse kunstenares Blanche Douglas Hamilton (1853-1927) aan het Noord-Veluws Museum overgedragen. Veel van de tekeningen laten het landleven op de Veluwe zien, waar zij lang woonde en werkte. De schenking vormt een prachtige verrijking van de collectie Noord-Veluwse kunstenaars.

Schenkingen
Hoe Teylers Museum aan de tekeningen is gekomen was tot voor kort niet helemaal duidelijk. In ieder geval zijn ze via twee aparte schenkingen bij het museum terechtgekomen. Drie aquarellen komen uit de nalatenschap van de Veluwse kunstenares Ima van Eysinga en zijn in 1959 aan het museum geschonken. Een recent gevonden brief van de uit Haarlem afkomstige kunstenares Chrisje van der Willigen aan Ima van Eysinga verklaart de aanwezigheid van deze collectie tekeningen in Teylers Museum. De oom van Chrisje van der Willigen was er beheerder van het Fysisch Kabinet (1864-1878). Van der Willigen verbleef ook jaren lang in Nunspeet, waar zij optrok met Douglas Hamilton en Van Eysinga. Door haar relatie met Teylers Museum stelt zij in de brief voor dat Van Eysinga de collectie tekeningen na het overlijden van de kunstenares in 1927 in dat museum onderbrengt.

Tentoonstellingen
De meeste tekeningen van Blanche Douglas Hamilton laten het landleven van de Veluwe zien, de overige tekeningen zijn reistekeningen uit België, Zwitserland en Israël. In Teylers Museum verlieten de tekeningen amper het depot. Het Noord-Veluws Museum had al eens tekeningen van Blanche Douglas Hamilton in bruikleen van Teylers Museum voor de tentoonstelling Schapenschilders in 2015. Ook voor de tentoonstelling Vrouwen Uit de kunst! heeft Teylers Museum tekeningen van Douglas Hamilton in bruikleen gegeven. In het Noord-Veluws Museum zullen de werken veel vaker te zien zijn. Door de overdracht draagt Teylers Museum bij aan de collectiemobiliteit tussen Nederlandse musea en de zichtbaarheid van de tekeningen.

Het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet is bijzonder gelukkig met de vijftig schilderijen, tal van foto’s en persoonlijke bezittingen van de Nunspeetse kunstschilder Chris ten Bruggen Kate (1920-2003), een omvangrijke schenking aan het museum van de Stichting Chris ten Bruggen Kate.

De vijftig prachtige schilderijen, de foto’s en persoonlijke bezittingen van Chris ten Bruggen Kate komen uit de nalatenschap van zijn weduwe Lenie ten Bruggen Kate – van der Sloot. De Stichting Chris ten Bruggen Kate is beheerder van deze nalatenschap.

Op donderdag 19 maart 2015 heeft in het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet, tijdens een perspresentatie, de formele ondertekening van de schenkingsovereenkomst plaatsgevonden. Dit in aanwezigheid van twee bestuursleden van de Stichting Chris ten Bruggen Kate: voorzitter Glenn van den Brink-van Koppenhagen (achternicht van de op 26 augustus 2014 overleden Lenie ten Bruggen Kate-van der Sloot) en secretaris Ernst Kelder.

Chris ten Bruggen Kate (Utrecht 6 oktober 1920 – Nunspeet 6 mei 2003) ging, na een korte tijd de Zeevaartschool te hebben bezocht, in 1937 als 17-jarige schildersleerling in de leer bij de kunstschilder Hendrik Willem de Jong in Nunspeet. Ten Bruggen Kate vestigde zich permanent in Nunspeet.Hij is bekend geworden als schilder, aquarellist en tekenaar van landschappen, figuurvoorstellingen en stillevens. Zijn latere werken kenmerken zich door een magisch realistische stijl. In het kunstenaarsdorp Nunspeet werkte hij onder andere met de Nunspeetse kunstschilders Jaap Hiddink, Jos Lussenburg en Cor Vrendenberg en gaf hij schilderlessen aan de Vrije Academie Nunspeet.

Daaronder bevinden zich werken van onder meer: Frans Huysmans, Jan van Vuuren, Bernard Koldeweij, Hendrik Otto van Thol, Arthur Briët, Chris ten Bruggen Kate, Maurits Lapidoth, Jan Kleintjes en Jaap De noordelijke Veluwe wordt vanaf 1880 als toeristische bestemming ontdekt. De ongerepte natuur en de eenvoudige bewoners oefenen een grote aantrekkingskracht uit op stadsbewoners. Juist in een tijd van opkomende industrie en verstedelijking krijgen zij oog voor de schoonheid van de natuur.

In navolging van het beroemde kunstenaarsdorp Barbizon bij Parijs ontstaan in de loop van 19e eeuw overal in Europa kunstenaarskolonies. In Nederland trekken kunstenaars uit steden zoals Den Haag en Amsterdam er op uit. Door de uitvinding van de verftube kunnen zij hun landschappen ‘en plein air’ schilderen in plaats van in een atelier.

Ook in Nunspeet en Elspeet vormt zich vanaf 1890 een kunstenaarsgroep. Zo’n honderd beeldende kunstenaars hebben tussen 1890 en 1950 in deze regio gewoond en gewerkt. Bekende kunstschilders zijn onder meer Arthur Briët, Willy Martens, Edzard Koning, Jan van Vuuren, Ben Viegers, Jos Lussenburg, Jaap Hiddink en Chris ten Bruggen Kate.

Het werk van deze schilders vindt gretig aftrek bij particulieren in Nederland en zelfs in Engeland, Schotland, Canada en Amerika. In deze schilderijen herkent men het directe contact met de natuur en de romantische uitbeelding van het dagelijkse leven.
